Abstract: The EC-project POVES was carried out by the Research Group for Rehabilitation Technology (Fortec) of the University of Technology, Vienna.
POVES is an optoelectronic device for nightblind users. POVES will ease visual impairments, e.g. night blindness, decrease of the visual field, color blindness and impairments in contrast perception, light sensitivity and visual acuity, which cannot be compensated by conventional optical means.
As a first step a system for night blind persons was built. This system runs under the acronym NIVIS (Night Vision Spectacles).
Within this project fortec was responsible for defining the needs of the disabled users and for performing tests with the different systems. The nightblind users tested the spectacles of NIVIS, the results gave the feedback to a redesign.

Project Name: POVES - Portable Optoelectronic Vision Enhancement System
