Abstract: The transwheel project aims at developing a wheelchair that, through its design and human-machine interface (HMI), shall be usable in all possible environments the user goes through during the course of the day (own appartment, office (work) and outdoors).
The needs of the users are to be evaluated before the actual phase of design. Later on, the wheelchair developed shall be evaluated by various users both in laboratory and field studies (involving access and safety, transport in car, bus, train as well as extensive trials of comfortability and manoeverability aspects).
