Technology for inclusion: Meeting the special needs of all students

Author: M. Male
Abstract: Male offers several different perspectives on AT in her book. In the first chapter, she discusses the process of deciding which technology has to be used in the regular classroom, the access needs of students with disabilities, and the importance of collaboration among educators in including children who need AT to participate fully. The second chapter takes a development perspective on AT, looking at its use with infants through adults with disabilities. In the next chapters, the process of integrating technology into the classroom is considered and the different ways in which activities using technology can impact the social development of students are discussed.
At the end of the description suggestions for implementing technology into individual education plans are provided, together with tips for collaborating with parents, and considerations about policy reform and dealing with change. The book's focus may be too centred upon academics for those dealing with students with severe or profound disabilities.
