Abstract:
This book summarises results of two research projects of the
German National Research Center for Information Technology (GMD),
which focus on evaluation and design problems considering ergonomic
requirements. The main goal of both projects was to develop
methods and tools for user interface designers that help them
to construct usable interfaces.
The goal of the first project " EVADIS" was to develop
a comprehensive evaluation guide that overcomes some typical
deficiencies of known evaluation methods. The aim of the second
project "IDA" was to assist interface designers during
the design process of the user interface. This assistance enables
the designers to construct ergonomic user interfaces.
Based on the framework of methods the author develops special
tools to explore the characteristics of the users (interview
techniques, special methods for questionnaires, checklists,
classification schema, user groups ) and describes the cooperation
with typical users of user interface development tools.
