Example of user involvement in product development and technology

Abstract:
The German D.I.A.S. GmbH is an enterprise located in Hamburg
chiefly occupied with studies on quality assurance and technology
assessment in the rehabilitation sector.
DIAS supports i.e. producers of AT in the development and improvement
of technical aids. By means of an analyzis of user requirements,
carried out either by means of questionnaires, strutured interviews
, group discussions or practical usability tests, user profiles
are developed. The results thus maintained are applied to prototypes
as well as actual products. The tests are carried out involving
both disabled and elderly people. Most of the proceedings are
ordered by the producers themselves, whereas the main fields
of present application are the testing of mobile lifters, therapeutic
chairs and walking aids.
DIAS is also carrying out market analysis in the area of consumers'
research and acceptance of products and services.
