Abstract:
Home shopping is an IT-mediated service, introduced into the
homes of elderly and handicapped individuals. Many individuals
cannot benefit from the services offered by society due to physical
or psychological impairment.
Three studies of different system characteristics (e.g. system
design, implementation, media design) have been compared and
analysed in the contribution.
Study 1: The 'requirement study'-new service and new technology.
The aim of the study (Karlsson & Kaulio 1992) was to to
specify general requirements for a home shopping system on basis
of users'/customers' experiences, problems and wishes (methods:
interviews, questionnaires).
Study 2: The 'implementation study'-well-known service and new
technology. The aim of the study was to determine the feasibility
of new technology (methods: focus group).
Study 3: The 'interface study'-reducing new technology anxiety.
The aim was to evaluate two different computer interfaces for
electronic shopping (methods: focus group, interviews).
