New Challenges in the Standardization Process in Europe

The European Context For Assistive Technology, Assistive Technology Research Series

Author: Elisabeth Kampmann Hansen
Abstract: The paper describes two major surveys that have been carried out in the HEART study Line A to illuminate needs for new standardization within the field of assistive technology and propose new and more efficient standardization.
The focus of Survey 1 is on carrying out a questionaire. Six different groups of organisations (i.e. European user organisations, representing disabled people) were selected to be questioned for their opinion on needs for standardization. Survey 2 comprises three workshops. These workshops to which European user organisations were invited were arranged to get a focused discussion of the areas where standardization could have an impact to improve the situation concerning products, services and accessibility.
