A Methodology for Defining User Requirements for Rehabilitation and Assistive Technology

The European Context For Assistive Technology, Assistive Technology Research Series

Author: Colette Nicolle, David F Poulson, Simon J Richardson
Abstract: A user-centred design methodology to elicit, capture and consolidate user requirements for rehabilitation/ assistive technology for disabled and elderly people has been developed by the TIDE SCALP (1002) and CASA (1068) projects.
The data collection strategy involves two broad activities, a state of the art review (i.e. network analysis of key organisations and actors, literature review) and fieldwork (direct interviews, Focus Groups / User Groups and observational studies). The TIDE SCALP and CASA projects have developed and tested a methodology, as used in the TIDE ASHoRED project, to elicit, capture and consolidate user requirements for disabled and elderly people.
